What’s next for Nigeria’s foremost soul singer, Timi Dakolo?

On Sunday, January 14, 2024 at 6:30pm, Timi Dakolo hosted a listening party for his new album titled, The Choir Leader. The event held at Live! Lounge on Idejo Street, Victoria Island, Lagos. It was a packed house. In attendance were member of the House of Representatives for Ekiti North 1 (Ikole/Oye) Federal Constituency, Akin Rotimi; Creative Director and Owner of HerTunba, Florentina Agu; leading producer, Cobhams Asuquo; media personality, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu; rapper and songwriter, Falz; Running To You crooner, Chike Ezekpeazu Osebuka better known as Chike; fashion designer, Mai Atafo; media entrepreneur, J.J. Omojuwa and Roby Ekpo.

Dakolo began the listening event with a warm introduction to his creative director, Magical Andy. The audience listened to, and enjoyed new soul music presented by Dakolo, which focused on love, life struggles, culture, and childhood influences from his Port Harcourt upbringing.


A crowd favourite was the song titled, Omo Ayo, the first track on the album. Omo Ayo sounded like a victory song, that in spite of the struggles in life, people should endeavour to remain joyful, focused, and learn to persevere through pain and life challenges.

As a birthday gift to his fans, on January 20, Dakolo released the music video for an afrobeats inspired anthem titled, Men of the South, also on the album. To date, the video has garnered over 500,000 views on Youtube. The colourful, deeply cultural, and vibrant video featured Dakolo’s friends, family members, and well wishers.

Dakolo states, “my heart will keep creating different beats, and my mind will keep creating different scenarios. I think I did an amazing job on this album. There is something for everyone. When you listen to the album, let me know how it makes you feel.”

From Dakolo, this year, we can expect his participation in music festivals, more listening parties, concerts, features and collaborations, live events, and albums. With 16 years of experience in Nigeria’s music industry, Dakolo is ready to chart new territories in Nigeria’s soul music space. Dakolo’s album is set to be released on Friday, January 26, 2024 and the album is available for purchase on all streaming platforms.
