We’re not involve in NLC strike – Kano doctors

The Kano branch of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) has stated that medical practitioners operating across the state will remain on duty despite the commencement of the organised labour strike on Monday.

Following the announcement of the indefinite strike, banks, hospitals, airports, and government offices have been shut down across the nation.

Organised Labour called for an indefinite strike due to the Federal Government’s failure to meet its N494,000 Minimum Wage demand.

According to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the N494,000 national minimum wage being demanded by organised labour, which cumulatively amounts to the sum of N9.5 trillion, would destabilise the economy and jeopardise the welfare of Nigerians.

Despite a last-minute intervention by the leadership of the National Assembly to stop the strike, it proved futile.

Secretary of the NMA in Kano, Dr Abdurrahman Ali, as quoted by Daily Trust, said they are a professional body and are not part of NLC, so they are not embarking on any strike action.

“All doctors and medical practitioners will be on duty at their various hospitals,” Ali said. “This may not be 100 per cent, but we are not part of it.

“Of course, you may go there and discover that the person to bring out your file is also away, but our members are on the ground.”
