We’ll host best ever African Games, Ghana’s minister boasts

As the countdown begins ahead of the March 8 flag off of the 13th African Games, the government and people of Ghana say they are ready to host a spectacular event.

Already, the West African nation is agog with fanfare, pomp and excitement ahead of the Games.

The African Games, known for its celebration of talent, unity, and sportsmanship, is set to showcase the best of the continent’s athleticism.


This year’s edition promises to be a spectacle, featuring eight Olympics sports, 15 non-Olympics games, and six spectacular demonstration sports, drawing participants and spectators from far and wide.

Ghana Sports Minister, Mr Mustapha Ussif, expressed Ghana’s readiness to host the prestigious event.

He highlighted the significant investments made by the government in the sporting sector, emphasising the event’s importance for national development.

“The forthcoming 13th African Games carries immense significance for the national development of Ghana. Beyond the thrill of competition, the event serves as a catalyst for progress, growth and development.

“The construction of state-of-the-art sports facilities in the country, not only provides a platform for athletic excellence, but also contributes to the overall infrastructure development, leaving a legacy for generations to come,” the minister stated.

As the final preparations are underway, Ghana eagerly awaits the arrival of athletes, officials, and spectators from across the African continent.

For a majority of Ghanaian sports fans, the African Games promises opportunity to celebrate the spirit of unity and camaraderie, which the country is known for.
