Warri Wolves pledges FA Cup trophy as welcome gift to new Delta governor

FA Cup

• Rangers also tackle Plateau United in semifinals

For players and officials of Warri Wolves FC, winning this year’s FA Cup trophy will be a befitting gift for the new Delta State Governor, Sherrif Oborevwori.

Warri Wolves will file out against red-hot Premier League side, Bendel Insurance FC, in one of the semifinals of the FA Cup in Lagos this afternoon.

An official of the team told The Guardian, yesterday, that beating Bendel Insurance today might be difficult, but not impossible.

“Our dream is to win the trophy and present it as welcome gift to the new Governor, Sherrif Oborevwori, who is a sports lover. As the Speaker of Delta House of Assembly, he did a lot for sports by supporting the noble ideas of former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

“Now, it is his turn, and we will like to win the FA Cup for him. First, we have to beat Bendel Insurance in Lagos. It is possible,” the official stated.

Warri Wolves, against all expectations, eliminated Premier League side, Lobi Stars of Makurdi, to get to the semifinal of the FA Cup.

Meanwhile, Warri Wolves’ coach, Jolomi Atune, has described the Federation Cup semifinal clash against Bendel Insurance as the final before the final.

Atune, who has coached in different categories of Nigeria national youth teams, said both teams have good players, but he believe that the team with better techniques will smile at the end of the game, which will hold at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.

Atune said he is determined to stop the Benin Arsenal, which is being handled by former coach of Nigeria U-23 Dream team, Monday Odigie.

“Bendel Insurance is our sister club, as we came from the old Bendel State. Anytime we meet in sports, it is usually tough because it is a local derby. We respect Bendel Insurance, but I believe that the team with a better technical ability will laugh last in the match. We are ready,” he stated.

While Warri Wolves defeated Lobi Stars 2-1 to get the semifinal,  Bendel Insurance outclassed Sunshine Stars 1-0 to make it.

Today’s match at Onikan will hold at 4.00 p.m.

The second semifinal match between Plateau United and Rangers International will hold at Otunba Dipa Dina Stadium, Ijebu-Ode, also by 4.00 p.m.
