Walking in the light (2)

Abel Ukachi Amadi

Light has tremendous power. Light produces or gives warmth. Planets where light does not exist are not habitable. Light is responsible for the production of energy in the factory. Light is equally important for growth, healing, productivity, progress, movement and radiance. Light wins, dispels, rules, dominates, overcomes and overthrows every forms of darkness.

Darkness cannot compete with light and light must rule over darkness. God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night and He made the stars also. God set them in the firmament of the Heaven to give light upon the earth (Genesis 1:16).

Light brings purity, cleansing, beauty, radiance, insight, direction, progress, achievement and transformation. Light exposes whatever is hidden in the dark and produces radiance that gives direction.

At salvation, we were called out of darkness into light. Every believer is to walk in a new life as directed by the Spirit of God, and not in sinful pleasures as demanded by the flesh. A believer who has the light of God grows very fast. As plants need sunlight to grow, so, does a child of God needs the light of God to grow.

When the light of God shines upon a believer, it helps the believer to grow in holiness because the light of God helps us to see our sinfulness, ungodliness and our unworthiness, and makes us adjust our lives according to the standard of God’s holiness. God’s light dispels and pushes away darkness from our lives. The light of God helps us to run with speed in life. Light gives life. Light gives speed. Light gives health. Light gives warmth. We need constant light for survival.

Believers in Christ are instructed and expected to be walking in the light and not walking in darkness. Jesus should make a difference in our lives! Walking in the light means a readiness to walk in obedience to all godly instructions in the word of God. It also means a readiness to have the Holy Spirit melt you and mould you into the image and likeness of God.

While you are a stranger and pilgrim in this world, there was a time when you were a citizen of this world. You lived like they live. You thought like they think. You did what they do. You were part of them. While you are delivered from the world, you still possess a deep familiarity with the world and its ways. There is still a part of you, the fleshly part that still desires the things of the world you left behind when you were saved. Just as surely as the flesh and the world longs for you to conform to its ways, the Spirit of God and the resurrected Spirit within you want you to be transformed so that you might be what God saved you to be, Gal. 5:16-17.

Light brings lasting transformation. Anywhere light enters there is bound to be transformation. When the light of God enters into a person, such a person’s life is bound to be transformed. When the light of God enters a community such a community is bound to witness transformation. It is important that you walk in and dwell in the light. In both the old and New Testament, believers are commanded to walk in the light. In Isaiah 2:5, God commanded the house of Jacob to walk in the light and in Ephesians 5:8, God commanded every believer to walk as a child of light.
