VDMA tasks local industrial players on Nigeria-German trade

German Machinery and Equipment Manufacturers Association (VDMA) has called on local industrial players to leverage the renewed Nigerian-German trade relation to develop the sector.

Regional Manager, Africa and North America, Construction Equipment and Plant Engineering Mining, VDMA, Chukwuemeka Onaa made this call during the visit of some delegates of German original equipment manufacturers to Nigeria with the theme, ‘partnering to power Nigeria’s industrial sectors.’

Stressing the need for local industrial players to leverage the partnership of over 3600 members, he said, “We came to Nigeria to explore business opportunities and we intend to partner Nigeria to improve the industrial sector. We’re offering Nigeria our reputation, which is tied to the products we offer.”

Onaa recalled that last year at a Nigeria-German business forum in Berlin, the President, Minister for Industry, Trade and Investment and Minister of Finance, all gave assurances that investors and technology suppliers would be given the necessary support.

Director General of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), Sola Obadimu said: “As a developing nation, it is sometimes necessary to seek resources from elsewhere in some areas. In our case, our capacity in terms of industrial machinery development is still limited and we have asked some equipment manufacturers for some level of small medium-sized manufacturing facilities.”

Urging the delegates on the theme, the President of the Nigeria-German Chamber of Commerce, Igbuan Okaisabor, said delegates must find a way to let SMEs benefit from the visit.
