The United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), has provided a grant to a Nigerian company, Quaint Global Energy Solutions, for a solar power project being developed in Kaduna, in the North Central geo-political zone of the country.
The offer was sealed in Arlington, Virginia State, with the Nigerian company, on the sideline of President Muhammadu Buhari`s visit to the U.S.
Details of the offer were not immediately made available, but a statement from USTDA affirmed that the project has the potential to leverage over $160 million in public and private capital.
The project has capacity to generate 50 megawatts of much-needed clean, affordable energy to Kaduna State
Specifically, USTDA is expected to sponsor feasibility study for the project, which will include the development of initial costing for the scheme’s engineering, procurement and construction, as well as the preparation of an operations and maintenance scope and budget.
Besides, Tetra Tech ES Inc, an energy project developer, based in Pasadena, California State in U.S. will provide training for Quaint employees to support the company’s capacity to develop and operate the project.
USTDA’s partnership with Quaint supports the goals of Power Africa, a U.S. government-led initiative to increase electricity access across sub-Saharan Africa
According to USTDA Director Leocadia I. Zak, “this project is a great example of how the U.S. and Nigeria are working together to increase electricity access under President Obama’s Power Africa initiative”.
Zak, who signed the grant agreement with Quaint’s President, Mobolaji W. Durodola stressed that “by working together on projects like this one, we can ensure that more Nigerians have access to renewable energy.”
