UPN tasks Buhari on nation building

The Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) on Friday advised the President-elect, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, to redeem his electoral promises to justify teh confidence of the electorate on him.

The party specifically urged Buhari to focus on issues that would foster nation building and improve the lives of Nigerians.

UPN gave the task in a statement issued by the party’s National Secretary, Alhaji Abubakar Sokoto, to newsmen in Abuja.

It congratulated Buhari for his uncommon “perseverance, patience and courage” that led to his victory at the March 28 election.

The party prayed God to guide and give Buhari the wisdom and health to bring happiness to Nigerians.

“We equally celebrate President Goodluck Jonathan for exhibiting an act of sportsmanship for congratulating the winner before the last blow of the referee’s whistle.

“That action as a matter of fact endured him (Jonathan) into the heart of many people within and outside the shores of our country,” the statement said.

The party also commended Prof. Attahiru Jega, the INEC Chairman, who it said stood his ground in spite of “intimidation and discouragement”.

“We call on all good people of Nigeria to join the UPN to appeal to Jega to, in God’s good name, accept to continue to serve for the 2nd term,” the statement said.
