United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) has canvassed improved learning in Nigeria.
It also underlined the need for government to ensure students learn to their best capacity to address the high number of out-of-school children in the country.

Officer-in-charge, UNESCO Regional Office, Abuja, Phillipe Delanghe, who made the appeal at an event to commemorate the 2023 African Child Day in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), raised awareness of the continuing need for improvement of the education provided to African children.

On the occasion, the global agency also launched the simplified Child Rights Act to promote advocacies for better access and meaningful participation in the digital space.

He explained that the theme of the celebration, ‘The rights of our child in the digital environment’, was apt and instructive.
Delanghe, who was represented by Senior Education Specialist, Regine Prisco, said: “Global and national evidence points to the fact that education has the power to transform the lives of children and young people, as well as help them improve their human capital and realise their potential as productive members of the society.

“The digital space provides a better platform to facilitate this, and investing in infrastructure and tools to improve the quality of education of the African child is an investment in the right direction.”
