UITH Consolidates Gains Of ‘Keep Fit’ Initiative

THE Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Prof. Abdulwaheed Olajide Latinwo and some members of staff of the institution have praised the sustenance of the monthly keep fit initiative, after 12 months of its introduction.

The session led by the Coordinator of the keep fit exercise, Pharm. Lanre Alege was used to review activities since inception, while suggestions were also offered.

After the usual two kilometre brisk walking, jogging and aerobics, Latinwo said when it started a year ago, they were not too sure as to the benefits they could derive, considering the fact that they work in a health related institution, which should have known the benefits of exercise.

According to him, ‘We realised that though we are health workers, we are so engrossed with the care of patients that we leave our own care to the hands of God.’

There are some non-health related benefits that we also derive by coming together like this, and there are lots of challenges in the health sector that leads to internal rivalry, and we are using the platform to improve our relationship in the name of exercise’, he added.

He pledged that the institution will consolidate on the successes already achieved, even as he commended the Sports Council, Kwara SWAN and others who are assisting the course.

The Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Prof Yinka Buhari, who is also the Director, Clinical Services joined other members who include Baba Olowo, Tosho Mohammed and Surajudeen Lawal to commend the authorities of the institution for providing the opportunity.

Kwara SWAN Chairman, Bunmi Adedoyin and the Director of Sports, Mallam Tunde Kazeem also commended the initiative.

Meanwhile, the CMD has promised to support Kwara SWAN towards the completion of its state secretariat.

Latinwo, who visited the site at the Kwara State stadium on Saturday in company of his aides, commended SWAN for conceiving the idea, which he said would add value to sports promotion and development in Nigeria if completed.

He also reiterated his institution’s support for their Nationwide League team, Injectors FC.

Adedoyin said that the foundation of the project was laid in December 2014 by the Elerin of Erin-Ile, Oba AbdulGaniyu Ajibola Ibrahim, Olusookun II (MFR).

He added that SWAN plans to complete the project in the next 10 months.
