The troops of Operation Lake Sanity 2, under the Task Force in Wulgo, Borno State, have rescued 34 women and children from Boko Haram terrorists.
They also neutralised one terrorist during clearance operations conducted in the Mazuri, Itsari, Mudu, and Maleri villages on the fringes of southern Lake Chad in Nigeria.
Relatedly, three fighters from the Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) based in the Jabilaram camp, a secluded islet on Lake Chad, yesterday, surrendered to the troops.
The fighters, identified as Babakura Abubakar, 20; Abacha Kyari, 28; and Mohammad Adam, 29, are currently undergoing interrogation.
Spokesperson for the Military Joint Task Force in N’djamena, Chad, Lt. Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, who disclosed this, also said an air interdiction mission was conducted on June 9, 2024 at Kollaram. The air assault operation was aimed at dismantling terrorist operations across the Lake Chad area.
He said: “This operation destroyed three suicide vehicle-borne Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) poised for a major terrorist attack.
“This precise strike exemplifies the efficacy and capabilities of Troops Contributing Countries’ air force units in neutralising high-value terrorist targets and mitigating potential threats.
“The combined efforts of ground and air operations are significantly degrading the operational strength and morale of terrorist factions in the region.
“The MNJTF remains resolute in the mission to eradicate terrorism, ensure the safety of civilians, and foster a secure and peaceful environment conducive to sustaining long-term stability.”
He added: “The Force Commander, Major General Ibrahim Sallau Ali, commend the bravery of the troops involved in these operations and reiterated the commitment of MNJTF to restoring normalcy and peace through continued vigilance and proactive engagements.”
Meanwhile, about a week after one of the most-notorious terrorists in the North-West, Buharin Yadi, was reportedly killed by troops of 1 Division, one of his powerful cohorts, Daushe, has also been felled on the frontline.
Daushe met his waterloo on Eid-el-Kabir day, Sunday, June 16, when troops of Sector 6 of the Nigerian Army, in their effort at ensuring terror-fre Sallah celebrations, carried out an operation across Giwa Local Council of Kaduna State.
A counter terrorism media expert in that area, Zagazola Makama, said several platoons of the troops converged at Sabon Layi, from where they advanced to Kidandan area.
“As they advanced closer to Kidandan, troops sighted the terrorist, who was later identified as Daushe, riding his motorcycle at a high speed, in his effort to flee from the troops.
“As the troops gave a hot pursuit, Daushe abandoned his motorcycle and fled to a nearby settlement, where he was killed as he tried to escape to the surrounding bush.”
Two sacks of corn flour and one mobile phone were recovered from him.
