TIV Cultural and Social Association (TCSA), Taraba State, has called for immediate government’s intervention in killings taking place in Taraba South. Spotlighting the plight of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state, the group criticised the state government for failing to find a lasting solution to the Tiv-Jukun crisis since April 1, 2019.

At a world press conference in the state capital, yesterday, the association voiced deep concern about the prolonged conflict between Tiv and Jukun communities in the area.

Led by the President-General, James Baka, TCSA sounded an alarm regarding returning IDPs facing threats and harassment, questioning the durability of the peace achieved.

TCSA called on both the federal and state governments to swiftly end the crisis, secure the displaced persons and guarantee the protection of their civic rights.

Expressing concern about the alleged partiality of the Army, TCSA accused the military of obstructing the return of IDPs to their ancestral homes.

Villages they identified to be under military control include Tor Musa, Tor Lorshagher, Daa and Ikyernum.

The group appealed to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) to investigate the claims, take decisive action and deploy neutral army officers to protect returning IDPs.

It also pleaded for government’s assistance, relief materials and compact security for the returning IDPs. In a direct plea to Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba, TCSA urged him to visit the returning IDPs in Wukari, providing them with a sense of belonging and confidence in his government’s commitment to resolve the crisis.

Additionally, it called on private individuals and organisations to assist the IDPs with relief materials.
