Those on God’s side – Part 1

Amadi
Key verse: Exodus 32:26: “Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, who is on the Lord’s side? Let him come unto me. And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him.” (KJV)

The children of Israel on their journey to the Promised Land came to Mount Sinai and God called up Moses to come and receive the commandments to guide his people. Moses went up to the mountain to meet God and the rest of the people were in the camp. After some days, when they did not see Moses come down, they carried a referendum to choose a new god. They decided to choose a new god to replace the Almighty God, what a shame! They asked Aaron to make them some gods to worship. He obliged them and fashioned the golden calf. God sent Moses down from the mountain to go and see how the children of Israel have corrupted themselves. God wanted to destroy them all and start all over with Moses, but Moses began to intercede on their behalf. When Moses came down from the mount and saw what was taking place, he became angry and broke the tablets of the Law, which he received from God. Moses called for those who were on the Lord’s side to join him and take a stand.

Today, there is a clarion call by God for those who will be on His side. To be on the Lord’s side is to place ourselves under the authority of the word of God. No one can serve two masters at a time. You cannot serve both God and the Devil. It is either you are devoted to God and hate sin or you are a slave to Satan and an enemy of God. Joshua said to the people of Israel, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served or the gods of the Amorites, but as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord (Joshua 24:14-15).

Do not make attempt to replace God with whatever in your life. God must take His rightful place in the church and no attempt should be made to replace God, the glory of God and the knowledge of God in the church. The Church of Jesus Christ should not make the mistake the children of Israel made by trying to choose a new god in whatever form or shape. As we are noticing today, there are things that are happening in some places in the house of God.

The saddest part of it was that it was their leaders who initiated the exercise of making a new god for the people of Israel and carried it out. The Bible said in Exodus 32:2: “Aaron answered them, take off the gold earrings that your wives, your sons and your daughters are wearing, and bring them to me.” Today, some church leaders who ought to know and be good examples to the people are the ones misleading the people, they are leading. Church leaders should not mislead the people of God. Leaders should not increase the volume of problem in the church, but should join hands to attack the devil and push him back from wherever he is coming from. God is calling on people to come on the side of righteousness and holiness. Righteousness is the foundation upon which God established the church and the church should never compromise it.
