Terrorists kill five persons, abduct village head in Katsina

At least five people have lost their lives and several others were injured in two separate attacks carried out by suspected terrorists in Katsina State on Friday.

While the first attack occurred at midnight at Tuga village in Musawa Local Government Area, the second incident happened at about 1:30 pm, at the Yantumaki market, in Danmusa Local Government Area.

The gunmen reportedly opened fire on several people while buying and selling activities were ongoing at the Yantumaki market.

It was gathered that two people lost their lives, including a woman who was hit by terrorists’ bullets.


A source said some of the people at the market who managed to escape during the attack, sustained injuries, and have been taken to hospital for treatment.

As of the time of filing this report, police spokesperson in the state, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, was yet to respond to an inquiry on the Yantumaki market incident.

In Tuge village, terrorists killed three persons, including two male residents and the daughter of the Councillor of Tuge Ward, Hussaini Ibrahim.

The gunmen also abducted the Dagacin Tuge, or village head of the area, Mal. Kabir Hussaini, and another unidentified male resident.


The council’s Secretary, Ahmed Surajo confirmed the incident to journalists on Friday.

“The gunmen killed three persons, including the daughter of the Councillor of Tuge Ward, Hon. Hussaini Ibrahim. They also kidnapped the village head and another person,” the source said.

It was gathered that the terrorists operated for several hours without resistance from security operatives. Several houses were looted and burnt to the ground by the hoodlums.


Police spokesman ASP Abubakar Aliyu said a large number of bandits attacked the village resulting in the deaths of three persons and the abduction of two others.

He said the hoodlums also destroyed some properties, including a house and two shops.

The police chief assured that efforts were ongoing to rescue those kidnapped and arrest their abductors.
