Telehealth firm calls for increased healthcare spending to attract global health tourists

One of Nigeria’s leading telehealth firms, DoctorCare247, has called for increased investment in the country’s healthcare infrastructure and capabilities to position Nigeria as an attractive destination for global health tourism and foreign capital inflow.

Speaking at the 6th Global Healthcare Travel Forum and Conference in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, organized by the Global Healthcare Travel Council, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Doctorcare247, Chuks Melville Chibundu, stated that the booming medical travel industry holds immense potential for Nigeria through strategic investments and stakeholders’ collaboration.

Chibundu emphasized the need for Nigeria to urgently ramp up investments by upgrading and expanding its healthcare facilities as well as deploying the latest medical equipment while adhering to global standards.

He also stressed the importance of aligning with internationally harmonized regulations to ensure patient safety and quality of care.

The DoctorCare247 chief expressed keenness in collaborating with Nigeria’s federal and state governments to facilitate an investment-friendly ecosystem, citing Turkey’s success story as an example. He advocated for prioritizing public-private partnerships (PPP) as a key enabler, and favourable policies promoting medical tourism.

According to Chibundu, Nigeria has the potential to meet or even surpass Turkey’s achievements in health tourism given the required policy impetus and investments.

He noted that a robust healthcare ecosystem can earn Nigeria billions in precious foreign exchange besides generating immense job and entrepreneurial opportunities.
