.Gunmen kill village head in Benue

Suspect cultists have reportedly shot dead one Bobby Kabah and his pregnant wife in Ogwashi-Uku area of Delta State.

The Guardian gathered that they were killed on Tuesday, following continuous cult war between rival groups in the community, bringing the numbers of deaths to six within two weeks.

A source said the deceased were relaxing at their Agidiasei quarters when suddenly two suspected cultists stormed the place and carried out the havoc at about 8:35 p.m.

According to the source, Bobby was at home with his wife since he is nursing an injury in his leg following a motorcycle accident he had recently.

“The gunmen entered his home from the back, met him and his pregnant wife relaxing, and then opened fire, killing both of them instantly.”

When contacted, spokesperson for Delta State Police Command, Bright Edafe confirmed the incident but said no arrest has been made.

Relatedly, unknown gunmen in the early hours of yesterday killed one Mwakyoga Ishwa during an attack and arson at Ishwa Ankunya village in Benue State.

Apart from the killing of Ishwa, the village head of Akunya, several other persons were left with injuries and gunshot wounds.

The Guardian learnt that the injured are receiving treatment in health facilities at the nearby towns of Zaki Biam and Katsina-Ala.

The attack was coming on the heels of relentless and sustained assaults on states within the north central and Kaduna State by suspected Fulani herdsmen in recent weeks.

Ishwa Akunya village is located in Mbagar, Sherev, Uyam ward of Ukum Local Council of Benue State, where Senator Emmanuel Udende, the Senator representing the Benue North East constituency hails from.

The Guardian gathered that the security situation at the same council was breached later in the afternoon when a large number of herdsmen with their cattle, were seen firing sporadically and burning houses in the villages of Orifam, Mbaazemba, Ayado, Mbawar and Tse Tsetim at Azendeshi council ward.

At press time, the attack was still raging while the number of casualties could not yet be ascertained.

When the spokesperson for Benue State Police Command, SP Catherine Anene, was reached on the phone to comment on the attacks, she could not respond on account of poor network.

She, however, did not respond to text messages sent to her mobile phone.
