Stop interfering, NLC doesn’t own LP, Abure tells Ajaero

NLC President, Joe Ajaero

• You’re not even a member, LP chair tells Labour president
National Chairman of Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, has warned the President of Nigeria Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero, not to wage war against the party.

He also warned him against using the NLC platform, funds and resources to pursue his ambition of either becoming the President of the country in 2027 or governor of Imo State.

Yesterday, Abure gave the warning in Asaba, Delta State, while reacting to the shutting down of LP’s national headquarters in Abuja by protesting members of NLC, who demanded his immediate removal as national chairman of the party.

He expressed disappointment over the “picketing” of the party’s office, which he claimed was politically motivated.

Describing the actions of Ajaero as a show of rascality, abuse of office and the laws of the land, Abure said: “The leadership of NLC is on the part of destroying the successes we have recorded in the 2023 general election.

“I had expected that as a responsible trade union centre, a responsible number one labour leader, should have teamed up to work together to make the country better.

“But unfortunately, and ironically too, the NLC is the one that is on the part of a war against Labour Party.”

He challenged Ajaero to tell Nigerians any of his actions that favoured the workers since he assumed office as NLC president.

“It is a shame that over the years, Ajaero has not been able to organise a successful strike action, not even a single protest or picketing government establishment to bring the government to accede to the numerous requests of workers.

“As we speak, there are unfair labour practices meted out to workers by several organisations in the country. I have not seen Joe Ajaero go to such organisations to picket them.”

He maintained that Ajaero was never a registered member of Labour Party nor the party owned by NLC as claimed by the labour union, and so, he could not call the the shots in Labour Party.
