A cleric, Dr. Dele Oluwatade, yesterday, advised President Muhammadu Buhari to consider restructuring the country and stop borrowing from China, saying a restructured Nigeria can survive the debt burden and economic hardship facing the nation.
Addressing newsmen in Benin City, Oluwatade, who is a medical doctor and President of City Gate Elders Parliament, expressed worry over recent happenings in the country, which he noted were occasioned by bad leadership.
Oluwatade described atrocities in the country, ranging from nepotism, racial discrimination, widespread murder, rape, kidnapping and banditry as worrisome and called for urgent measures to nip them in the bud for the security and protection of Nigerians.
Lamenting the huge debt burden occasioned by the nation’s borrowing from foreign nations, particularly China, Oluwatade said: “This is a generational burden you have placed on Nigerians. My discourse is to help gain, redeem your image and bring something good out of His Excellency for which your lineage will be proud of, and all Nigerians will forgive you and love you.
“Remove the headache of borrowing to pay salaries. A restructured Nigeria will and can survive the debt burden. This press conference is called to help you share the burden of governance with a view to keep Nigeria together,” Oluwatade said.
MEANWHILE, the Catholic Archbishop of Owerri, Most Rev. Dr. Obinna, yesterday, admonished members of the Knights of St John International (KSJI) and the Ladies Auxiliary to continue to follow their calling on spirituality.
Obinna made the call while delivering a homily during the thanksgiving mass for KSJI Supreme Subordinate Commandery and Ladies Auxiliary, Nigeria at Maria Assumpta Cathedral at the weekend.
The archbishop also urged parishioners to always see elective office as a duty and call to service and not for self-aggrandisement.
“Man will on the day of judgment account for his deeds on earth and no matter how big or small an office may be, it calls for accountability,” he said.
Supreme Subordinate President (SSP), Major General (Prof. Remy) Uche, appreciated to the newly constituted Board of the Order in Nigeria and called for all hands to be on deck to boost evangelisation.
Sir Chris Umogbai, Director, Media and Publicity to the KSJI Supreme Subordinate Nigeria, noted that the SSP was excited at the outcome of the election and expressed willingness to serve the Catholic Church with their time, talent and treasure.
