Nigerian Idol judges - Ric Hassani, Omowumi and 9ice - with guest judge Ice Prince

Stevie, the self-proclaimed drama king, magic at the Nigerian Idol season 9 may have come to an end, but his journey on the show was nothing short of entertaining.

Well-executed choreography, show-stopping songs and incredible stage presence were all elements viewers were treated to at the Nigerian Idol live shows that saw the emergence of the top 5 contestants.

Hosted by Ik Osakioduwa, with judges – Ric Hassani, Omawumi, 9ice, and guest judge, Ice Prince— the show was held on Sunday, June 23, 2024, and took the contestants out of their comfort zones as world record-breaking choreographer, Dr Kaffy, coached the contestants on how to deliver a show-stopping performance.

Top personalities such as sports enthusiast and acclaimed Arsenal fan, Kelechi FC; media Personality, Bibi Raii; The Voice Nigeria Season 2 star, Precious Emmanuel; Nigerian Idol Season 8 contestant, Eso Daniel, and more were in attendance, cheering the contestants.

The top six contestants: Chima, Chioma, Mira Clear, Lammy, Stevie and Maio, started the night with a charged performance of John Legend’s ‘Preach’, accompanied by dancers masked as a mass choir. The night soon became tense as Stevie was evicted.

In Omawumi’s words to Stevie, she said: “You’ve been a source of joy on the show. We’ve seen the joy you exude in your music. You’ll do great outside.”

As the top five contestants emerged, the show-stopper night commenced with Lammy, as he performed ‘I’ve Got A Feeling’ by Black Eyed Peas. Although his vocals were not perfect, the energy he brought made up for it.

Mira Clear brought the heat with Beyonce’s ‘End of Time.’ The vocal control and execution of the choreography simply showed that she was indeed on the stage to compete.

Meanwhile, Chima further proved he was here for business with an ovation-worthy performance of Dua Lipa’s ‘Don’t Start Now. The incredible choreography and his stable vocals brought out a performance most considered graceful.

Unlike her previous performances, Chioma struggled to enjoy the stage as she performed Beyonce’s ‘ Who Run The World.’ On the other hand, tagged one of the best performances of the night, Maio brought it home with a performance of Davido’s viral single, ‘Unavailable.’
