The centre has reportedly been abandoned by successive administrations.
Residents expressed concern when the Resource Centre for Human Rights and Civic Education (CHRICED) led by its Executive Director, Ibrahim Zikirullahi, visited the centre, at the weekend.
The Guardian learnt that CHRICED had received an N800 million grant from MacArthur Foundation to equip communities of Abuja original inhabitants with skills and technical capacity required to sustainably and lawfully advocate the promotion of their rights and interests.
In implementing the project, CHRICED engaged the Mairo Women Foundation as a sub-grantee to train hundreds of indigenous women in the art of pottery at the centre.
During the visit, Zikirullahi described the facility as an important means of survival for some original inhabitants of Abuja, especially women.
