The Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu, inaugurated a judicial commission of inquiry on Thursday to investigate some of the actions taken by the previous administration of Aminu Waziri Tambuwal during his tenure.

Aliyu said he established the judicial panel of inquiry in response to the desires of the people of Sokoto State, who deserve to understand how their resources were managed during the previous administration.

“In order to let people know that I will not compromise, we decided to look for a very competent personality outside the state to be the chairman of the enquiry,” Aliyu said.

The commission has been given two months to complete its investigation and report back. Justice Muazu Abdulkadir, a former chief judge of Gombe State, serves as the panel’s chairman.

During the swearing-in ceremony for the panel members, Aliyu pointed out the importance of carrying out their duties in accordance with the law.

Aliyu stated his commitment to fulfilling his campaign promises of promoting accountability and transparency, not only with regard to the previous administration but also as a key aspect of his own governance.

He further highlighted the selection of a highly competent individual from outside the state as the chairman of the panel, demonstrating his commitment to impartiality and expressing confidence in the impeccable character of all the panel members.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the panel, Justice Muazu Abdulkadir Pindiga, assured the press after taking the oath that the panel would conduct its work fairly and without bias.

He outlined the key areas the judicial panel of enquiry would investigate, including the sale of government properties by the previous administration and the allocation of land to individuals.

“Others include indiscriminate allocation of lands to people, as well as to confirm how the payment made for such items were utilised,” he added.

The other members of the judicial commission of enquiry include Chief Jacob Ochidi SAN, Usman Abubakar, Lema Sambo Wali Esq., Alhaji Haliru Dingiyadi, and Nasiru Mohammed Binji Esq., who will serve as the commission’s secretary.
