SOKAPU urges UN, AU, others to wade into Kaduna attacks

Map of Kaduna State

Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU) has called on the international community to wade into the attacks in the southern part of Kaduna State, by sending troops to halt the alleged genocide perpetrated by the Fulani militia in various communities.

SOKAPU expressed sadness on the position of the global bodies that continued to watch the massacre and ethnic cleansing in Southern Kaduna, without any form of intervention.

Addressing newsmen in Kaduna, yesterday, President of SOKAPU, Awemi Dio Maisamari, said: “We are also very sad about the silence of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Africa Union (AU), Commonwealth of Nations and United Nations (UN) over the unrelenting pogrom in Southern Kaduna. We call on these continental and global bodies to send independent investigative teams to Southern Kaduna to debunk or confirm our claims of ethnic cleansing here.”

Specifically, Maisamari explained that before asking for the intervention of the global bodies, “we advocated a UN or AU Peace Enforcement Operations Base in Southern Kaduna.

“This will practicality demonstrate that the world is interested in our collective survival as minority ethnic groups in Nigeria.”

He called on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to prosecute those responsible for the ethnic cleansing in Southern Kaduna, stressing: “We are in support of other groups in the state calling on the ICC to bring those complicit in the genocide in the state to book.”
