Six signs that indicate you are losing battle against enemy -Part 3

Rev. John Okene

When you are growing in arrogance, it is another indication that you are losing the battle against the enemy. Prov. 11:2 tells us that when a man is overtaken with pride, what follows next is shame. There was once a very arrogant man who never cared to listen to anyone. He attended a conference one day in the company of his secretary and other members of his staff. While the conference was on, he felt pressed and so went to the rest room. Unknown to him, a part of his flowing gown (Agbada) was rubbed in feaces and this brought an awful smell into the conference hall.

The meeting could not continue, as they needed to deal with the source of that smell. It was a great embarrassment to the man when it was discovered that the smell was from him. His secretary and others who came with him said they actually saw it when he came out of the toilet but could not tell him because of his unapproachable and arrogant nature. Prov. 16:18 says, pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall. God himself resist the proud so how can such a person move forward in life? Arrogance can creep in easily among church folks and leaders. The best test of one’s character is not in failure but in success.

It is easy for a man to be humble when he fails but in the face of success, you know his true character. Arrogance creeps into a man in any of the following ways: when you are always being used by your pastor or boss and you begin to think that you are indispensable. You develop the “I have arrived” mentality, thinking you are so gifted and skillful. That is only the beginning of your fall. Other manifestation of arrogance is when you think you are so anointed that you don’t even pray again before programmes and yet things happen. You must be very careful because pride is very subtle. Some others think that if they don’t give financially to God’s work, it will fail. So everyone depends on their support. Understand that there is nothing you have that was not given by God. Again, when you feel that nobody has the right to question you then you are fast going down, watch it. Some persons also think that they have a monopoly of ideas, so other people’s ideas don’t count or are inferior. Learn to listen and respect people’s ideas.

Finally, arrogance is displayed when you find it difficult to submit to authority. 1 Peter 5:5 admonishes that you submit to your leaders and everyone, be humble irrespective of your status. God always has a better alternative for any person. When he removed Saul as king, He brought in David who did better. May you not be replaced in Jesus name.
