Shock As Woman “Declared Dead” Opens Eyes Moments Before Cremation

An unexplainable incident unfolded when a woman, presumed deceased, suddenly regained consciousness moments before her scheduled cremation at a funeral parlour.

Bujji Aamma, a 52-year-old resident of Berhampur, India, had suffered severe burns in a house fire on February 1st. Rushed to the hospital for treatment, she had burns covering half her body.

Despite her return home, her condition remained dire. Hindered by financial constraints, her family struggled to secure additional medical care.

Consequently, on a fateful Monday, believing Aamma had passed away, her husband, Sibaram Palo, made arrangements for her cremation.

Speaking to the Times of India, Palo said, “We thought she was dead and informed others in the locality to arrange a hearse van to carry the body to the cremation ground.”

As preparations for the funeral were ongoing and they were on the way to the cremation ground, Aamma startled everyone by opening her eyes, signaling her return to consciousness.

An eye witness recounted the moment, saying, “Initially, we were scared as we had never seen such an incident, though we had heard some stories.” Promptly, the driver, who had initially collected Aamma’s “dead” body, was instructed to transport her, now alive and breathing, back home.

In Indian tradition, last rites hold great significance and are intricately connected to the natural world. The deceased is laid on a grass mat or floor, signifying their return to the earth.

Rituals, including pouring special water into the mouth of the deceased, lighting candles, and placing a rice bowl nearby, are done on the way to the crematorium with the eyes typically covered.

This incident is not the first of its kind as a similar situation happened last October with a newborn baby, presumed still born and issued a death certificate, began crying at the crematorium, surprising its family and medical personnel.
