Sambo appointed NAS president

Nigerian Academy of Science (NAS) has announced the appointment of Prof. Abubakar Sambo as the President-elect. Executive Secretary of NAS, Dr Oladoyin Odubanjo, stated, yesterday, that Sambo, a Mechanical Engineering scholar and the immediate past Vice President of the academy, is set to succeed Professor Ekanem Braide in January 2025.

Boasting an illustrious career, Sambo, was Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, Chair of the Nigerian Member Committee of the World Energy Council’s Africa Region and former Vice Chancellor of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU). He is chairman of the Ministerial Task Force on Power.

Simultaneously, the Academy also welcomed Prof Friday Okonofua as new Vice-President. Okonofua, an obstetrician and gynecologist, succeeds Sambo in this role. Having served as VC, University of Medical Sciences in Ondo, he was also Chairman of the Publications Committee of the Academy.
