Rugby team arrives Mauritius for the Africa Cup 7s Championship

Nigeria’s men’s national team has arrived in Mauritius for the two series African Cup 7s Championship, held from June 29 to 30, as well as July 6 and 7.
 
According to the Nigerian Rugby Football Federation (NRFF) General Manager, Azeez Ladipo, the team comprising foreign-based and home-based players arrived in the host country early to intensify preparations for the championship.
 


“The African 7s Championship is a tournament that will be used to improve the ranking of the Nigeria Rugby team, and the NRFF is putting all efforts to ensure that the team becomes a strong force in Africa and at the global level.
 
“All hands are on deck for the Nigerian team to excel in Mauritius and other international engagements,” he said.
  
The 2024 African Men’s 7s tournament will be played in two rounds at the Labourdonnais Sports Club, Mapou, Mauritius.
 
Twelve nations are expected to compete in both rounds of the tournament, with the winner decided by points collected after the two rounds.
 
In the pairings, Uganda is in Group B also comprising Burkina Faso, Tunisia, and Cote d’Ivoire, while Group A has Kenya, Nigeria, Madagascar, and Mauritius.
 
In Group C are Zimbabwe, Zambia, Algeria, and South Africa, which replaced Ghana.
 

Meanwhile, the NRFF has signed a partnership agreement with a marketing company, Flovale to help promote and develop the game in Nigeria.
 
According to the NRFF President, Ademola Are, the partnership with Flovale will go a long way in creating an enabling environment for rugby players to excel.
 
Speaking at the launch of the partnership, Are said: “Nigeria Rugby is thrilled to announce a multi-year partnership with Flovale Consulting. As our new corporate partner, Flovale is dedicated to driving growth and success both locally and globally.
 
“With careful planning and their innovative strategies, together we are set to elevate rugby, foster financial stability, and achieve monumental milestones.
