Robbers invade students hostel in Rivers Varsity

Some students of Rivers State University have been rushed to the hospital with deep machete cut after armed robbers attacked an off -campus hostel at number 20 Osina street,Mile 3 Diobu, in PortHarcourt City Local Government Area of the State.

It was gathered that the hoodlums reportedly invaded the lodge at midnight on Wednesday, robbing all occupants and left two students with deep machete cuts.

The caretaker of the building, Mr. Fidelis Nuale, has confirmed the incident but declined the further comments.


It was learnt that several items including 13 mobile phones, wrist watch, pan slippers, laptop were carted away by the hoodlums.

The robbers numbering five were also said to have forced one of their victims to transfer money through a mobile App in his mobile phone to an account provided by one of the suspected armed robbers.

The Guardian gathered that, this is about the fourth armed robbery cases in various hostels at the University since this year and, the sad development has sent fears among the students who now sleep with one eyes opened.


Some of the victims who craved anonymity, said, “there has been series of armed robbery attacks in the varsity hostels, we have been subjected to fear. Hoodlums have been going from hostel to hostel carting away students valuables including phones and laptops”

“They robbers also forced us to transfer money through the mobile App to an account provided by one of the suspected armed robbers”

The matter is said, to have been reported to Azikiwe Divisional Police headquarters at illabouchi Mile 2,Diobu PortHarcourt.

Contacted, the Spokesman of the State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni, said, though the matter is yet to be reported to the command headquarters but noted that proactive measures are being taken to curtail incidents of armed robbery attacks in higher institutions ,and as well, save lives of students and the University community.

A source in the University also noted that the management is living no stone unturned to fight the sad development.
