Retired perm secs advocate regular training for civil servants

Prof. Tunji Olaopa

Council of Retired Federal Permanent Secretaries (CORFEPS) has stressed the training and retraining of civil servants for effective service delivery and realisation of the government’s targets and objectives.

The retired permanent secretaries stated this at an engagement with the Chairman, Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC), Prof Tunji Olaopa, in Abuja.

A former permanent secretary, Fortunatus Williams, noted that a well-structured training programme can equip civil servants with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively carry out their duties.

He said: “Without proper induction and training, civil servants may struggle to understand their roles and responsibilities, leading to inefficiencies and compromises in their work. The comprehensive handbook and resources already available can be a valuable tool in ensuring that civil servants have access to the information they need to excel in their roles.”

According to Olaopa, the role of retired bureaucrats in restoring the glory of the nation’s civil service remains as relevant as ever.
