Redefining transformational leadership through robust representation

That Indian teacher, feminist, author, and activist, Charu Verma, in one of her radical views once posited about history and she said: “In all cases, understanding history is integral to a good understanding of the condition of being human. That allows people to build, and, as may well be necessary, also to change, upon a secure foundation.

Neither of these options can be undertaken well without understanding the context and starting points. All living beings lived in the here-and-now, but it took a long unfolding history to get everything to now. And that history is located in time-space, which holds this cosmos together, and which frames both the past and the present.”

“Well, the truth of the matter is that history does repeat itself and it’s best to be prepared for it by knowing the outcomes of previous instances and being able to make informed decisions that will help, to a greater degree, in the long run. It helps us solve whatever problems the future holds. So keep knowing about the history or the past before stepping to anything.”

In whatever capacity that we may find ourselves, we may make history in all that we do, either consciously or unconsciously, knowingly or unknowingly. Men of valour and villain both make history. Iconoclastic men in leadership positions through their performances in the end have always succeeded in etching their names in gold or sand.

In the midst of the endemic rot in the nation that has continued to assail the citizens, it is gratifying to know that there are exceptions to the rule.

Legislators are elected to design bills and sponsor such on the floor of the House, for the benefit of their constituents and constituencies. But when a legislator, out of his milk of kindness considers and invest his time, energy and resources on his constituents without expectations of gratification in return, such should be celebrated.

Honourable Busayo Oluwole Oke, Member, House of Representatives, representing Obokun/Oriade federal constituency fits into this bill with the array of life-changing dividends of democracy extended to his people. Busayo Oluwole Oke, BOO, as he is fondly called is that individual who has advanced humanity than anyone in his generation.

His unyielding penchant at bridging the gaps between the haves and have-nots is second to none. He hates people languishing in poverty with every fibre of his being. As a representative with  conscience, he has empowered over 5000 members of his constituency; over 1000 free Technical Education Scholarship scheme in collaboration with the National Directorate of Employment, NDE, with the code named, Micro Enterprises Enhancement Scheme(MEES). Loans were given to the youths who may want to venture into small scale businesses, an initiative which is in line with the NDE objectives.

Interventionist projects in various towns and communities have been facilitated. Many communities have been assisted with boreholes, solar lights, asphalted roads through Community Development and Social Corporate Responsibility; provision of school buildings and learning equipment, multipurpose halls, renovation of traditional rulers’ palaces with life-enchancing facilities across the twenty-two wards in his federal constituency.

Despite the global pandemic of joblessness, BOO has secured gainful employments for over five hundred youths for his people; thousands of WASCE and Jamb forms have been bought for students, mostly especially those from humble backgrounds; thousands of youths and women have been trained both in soft and hard skills and some were later empowered with cash and needed materials to be self-reliant.

As a passionate leader, he said in one of his media interviews,: “My ambition is to empower more people and create investors in this constituency. I have a clear conscience, I asked for their supports during campaigns and they also demanded for my support in form of empowerment. That’s exactly what I am fulfilling today.”

While he served as the Chairman, House Committee on Defence, he influenced some life-changing projects to his constituency. Notable amongst them are: Air force Safety Institute, Ipetu Ijesa; expansion of Esa Odo water dam; Armed Forces Physical Training Institute, Esa-Oke; Armed Forces Games Village, Esa-Oke; proposed Federal College of Agriculture and Cooperative Studies, Ijebu-Ijesa; Police Post, llowa; and Olumirin Waterfall Recreation Centre. Yours truly as a writer who pays little attention to details went out of his way to re-establish from the beneficiaries.

In an open demonstration of gratitude, one Mrs. Olaoluwa Elizabeth profusely appreciated BOO for his uncommon gesture of magnanimity saying, if not for his timely empowerment, she would have taken to street for alms to fend for her four children because she’s a widow. The multiplier effect of BOO’s massive empowerments had in no unquantifiable measure contributed substantially to financing micro business enterprise, and this in turn generates employment opportunities for people, leading to poverty alleviation and life in abundance for the plebians.

BOO as a seasoned administrator, economist, and businessman is not a professional politician. He has a viable second address that comes before politics and little wonder he was never desperate.

As an economist who knows his onions, he is the founder of the African Tax Alliance; Chairman, LBIS Global Education Support Services; Coordinator, Taxpayers’ Rights Initiatives; President, Capital Assets Logistics Limited; Proprietor, Lead British International School, with branches in Abuja and Ibadan.

Lead British International School is an institution from early years to secondary education. They run both British and Nigerian national curriculum with special interest in technical and vocational education.

As an enigma who has not only made history in politics and private businesses, BOO is a typical example of academic success as he holds a bachelor of law(LL.B) from the Buckingham University; MBA Finance and Accounting; B.Sc Economics; NCE, Business Studies, distinction; Master’s degree in Tax Law Management and Administration Taxation Merit from the prestigious Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, School of Advanced Study, University of London.

With his cognate legislative and administrative wizardry, BOO stands a better chance of extending his midas touch to the State of Osun. He has been around before some opportunists who are now marauding as the alfa and omega.

He is that one politician who enjoys cult-like following in the length and breath of Osun, and his name is an household name with indestructible insignia of stellar and hunky-dory performances to boost.

Any politician who despise this personable political personage will be doing that at his own peril because his electrifying political presence goes beyond petty bickering. Without sounding immodest, BOO’s administrative ingenuity will be of future expedience as the state needs the proclivity of his wealth of experience to assuage the present cloud of uncertainty behoving like a disaster waiting to strike.
