Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has announced an additional 625 megawatts (MW) to the national grid, which has increased the grid’s capacity to 4,800 megawatts.

He made this known, yesterday, in Lagos at the commissioning of the 63 MVA, 132/33kV mobile station at Ajah, and the 60MVA, 132/33kv in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, simultaneously.

Adelabu explained that the two equipment would boost the nation’s transmission wheeling capacity by 123MW, thereby paving the way for enhanced electricity supply for all Nigerians.

He said the mobile substation would represent a strategic deployment aimed at improving the transmission capacity constraints by over 1300MW across the nation with its strategic placement at key sites such as Okene, Amukpe, Potiskum,Apo, Ajah, Birnin Kebbi, which underscored the government dedication to enhancing transmission efficiency and reliability nationwide.

He said: “Not only does it serve as a catalyst for capacity enhancement within our transmission network, but it also stands as a beacon of hope for the businesses and households reliant on uninterrupted power supply.”

“The versatility of this mobile substation cannot be overstated. From addressing major load centres to serving as a stopgap measure during maintenance and emergencies, its flexibility ensures swift responses to fluctuating power demands, thereby contributing to uninterrupted service delivery.”

The minister appealed to Nigerians to protect the assets to prevent vandalism.

Managing Director and CEO, FGN Power Company, Kenny Anuwe mentioned that the commissioning represents a vital addition to the nation’s infrastructure to enhance transmission wheeling capacity and reinforce the government’s commitment to providing better electricity access for all Nigerians.

He stressed that the 63MVA, 132/33kV mobile substation plays a critical role in upgrading transmission wheeling capacity and facilitating quick deployment to meet Nigeria’s growing energy demands as 10 of them were procured and three have been installed while two will be commissioned by next week.

“These mobile substations are strategically positioned to enhance the efficiency and reliability of power supply across key economic hubs in the country and will alleviate transmission capacity constraints in the sector by over 1300MW. Some of the Mobile Substations are being deployed at Ajah, Jebba, Kwanar Dangora, Nike Lake amongst others.

“With unwavering dedication and collaboration, we are poised to unlock the nation’s full potential and illuminate a brighter future for generations to come,” he said.

Also, Managing Director/CEO, Seun Suleiman assured the FGN power that they aim to achieve the delivery of 4000MW of power.

He stressed that as technical partners, they want to ensure the delivery of 4000MW, hence, urged Nigerians to avoid vandalisation of the infrastructures.
