Suspects Delta

The police in Delta State have nabbed a 38-year-old Cameroonian and two other suspected kidnappers during the attempted abduction of some residents in Warri.

Spokesperson for the command, SP Bright Edafe, who confirmed the arrest, yesterday gave the names of the others as: Yakubu Ya’u, 20, from Kaduna State and Musa Yakubu ‘m’, 25, from Kogi State.

Edafe explained that the suspects were arrested in the Warri area, following an operation carried out by Yakubu Ya’u, who resides in Kaduna, but always comes to Oha and Ughwagba Communities in Okpe Local Council to kidnap residents for ransom.

According to him, the police got wind of the suspects carrying out their operations on May 11, at about 5:43 p.m., and immediately swung into action.

“The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Orerokpe, CSP Paul Oboware, mobilised and led his patrol teams to the hideout in Warri, and after a painstaking search of the entire area, Yakubu Ya’u was arrested.

“Preliminary investigation and interrogation of the suspect led to the arrest of two other key gang members: Musa Yakubu from Kogi State and Abdulahi Mohammed from Cameroon.”

He said that at their hideout in Ughwagba community in Okpe Local Council of the state, two automatic pump action guns, one live cartridge, and one knife buried in the bush were recovered.

Edafe disclosed that preliminary investigations were still ongoing, while efforts to arrest other fleeing members of the gangs were on top gear.He reassured the public that the police would not relent in their pursuit of those who seek to disrupt the collective peace of the state.
