CSP Shola Jejeloye

No going back on arrest of one-way motorists, says Jejeloye

Operatives of Lagos State Task force have arrested a suspected fake Air force personnel at Oshodi. The 29-year-old suspect, Nzubechukwu Emmanuel was arrested while riding his motorcycle on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor along Bolade, Oshodi, Lagos.

Spokesperson for the agency, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, said when the suspect was accosted by officials, he claimed ‘Espirit de Corps’.

Upon arrest and questioning, it was revealed that he is into the business of selling shoes, but impersonates military officials to beat checkpoints and flout traffic rules.  He said the suspect would be charged to court.

The agency has also raided black spots at Oshodi, leading to the arrest of 49 suspected criminals. According to Abdulraheem, the officials found on the suspects substance suspected to be hard drugs such as cannabis, tramadol and others.

MEANWHILE, chairman of the Lagos State Task force, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Shola Jejeloye, has vowed that there is no going back on arrest and continuous clamp down on motorists driving against traffic on the state’s roads until the state is completely  free from their recklessness and flagrant disobedience of the state traffic laws.

Jejeloye said this in reaction to the spate of lawlessness and pockets of protests by hoodlums and miscreants when the Lagos State Taskforce impounded a commercial bus popularly known as ‘Danfo’ and a Toyota Avalon for driving against traffic along Egbeda-Idimu Road in the early hours of today.

The drivers of the Danfo bus marked AGL219XG and a Toyota Avalon marked GGE432FS were apprehended, while driving on one-way.
As soon as the vehicles were confiscated, the danfo bus driver quickly mobilised nearby hoodlums and miscreants to protest against the seizure of the vehicles.

He said: “We experience these things everyday so it’s not news to us. You will see commercial bus drivers and Okada riders endangering their lives and that of their passengers with no form of regard whatsoever, and when apprehended they either start begging or try to incite the public against us.”

Jejeloye further highlighted that the arrest and prosecution of errant offenders was in the best interest of the state and citizenry in general as this would serve as a deterrent to other road users, be it private or commercial.
