Police kill suspected assassin in Rivers

Peter Chukwu

Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have neutralised a 34-year-old man identified as Peter Chukwu a.k.a Daddy Chukwu, who terrorised members of the Mgboshimini community in Obio-Akpor Local Council of the state.

The state’s Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu disclosed this yesterday while parading suspects at the command headquarters in Port Harcourt.

The CP noted that Daddy Chukwu was the anchor head of Orashi Marine Iceland Deck and hitman for the late Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni cult leader, known as Don Wani.

The police boss said Daddy Chukwu was also responsible for the killing of over 22 persons in the abattoir area of the community on October 9, 2017.

Following the incident, the Command through its then Spokesperson, SP Nnamdi Omoni on October 11, 2017 declared him and seven others wanted for the killings.

Underscoring the importance of the breakthrough, Disu said the cult leader was trailed to his hideout in Delta State, where he had an encounter with the Police operatives in the house of his spiritualist.

He stressed that the deceased had gone to fortify himself after escaping from the operatives in a hotel in the Igwuruta area of Rivers State on March 6.

Disu said during the encounter, the hoodlum put up a serious resistance, but was overpowered by the Police’s superior fire power, which resulted in his death.

According to him, a tinted Black Toyota Highlander, with AK 47 rifle, Pump Action gun, Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), Police and Armed Camouflage, were recovered from him.

He said: “In January 23, the deceased dressed in Police uniform went to faith Ministry Church, brought out Ndidi Livingstone, the Chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC) of Mgbuoshimini community in Obio/Akpor Local Council and killed him in the presence of his wife, children and church members.

“They were also responsible for killing 22 people in 2017. He further killed and multilated the body of one Miss Grace Asuquo, who declined his invitation and also does assassination jobs.

“For instance, he was contracted to kill a hotelier, one Victor. In a bid to kill him, he installed a tracker in the hotelier’s car and after unsuccessful attempts to kill the hotelier, he planted a bomb in his hotel, which exploded and damaged a large part of the hotel.

“When we went to his hideout at a hotel in Igwuruta, the Police discovered a list of eleven persons he (the deceased) wanted to kill.”

The Rivers Police boss said the suspect had a network of informants whom he uses in intelligence gathering about activities of the Police.

He, however, thanked Inspector General of Police (IGP), Delta State Commissioner of Police and officers of Rivers State Police Command for their contributions in killing the assassin.

Meanwhile, a representative of the Mgbuishimin community, Weche Livingstone has thanked the CP and the IGP for their timely intervention.

Livingstone urged the CP not to relent in taking further steps to eradicate crime and criminality in the community.
