Police kill kidnapper, arrest five in Delta

The Delta State Police Command has reportedly shot dead a suspected kidnapper and arrested five others in Warri, Delta State.


Spokesperson for the Command, Bright Edafe, who confirmed the incident, yesterday, said tactical commanders attached to the Command shot the kidnapper.

According to him, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Johnson Adenola, after brainstorming with key officers in the Command, directed them to proceed to Ughelli and Warri to reinforce the divisions and nip the activities of kidnappers in the bud.

“This effort paid off when the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) ‘B’ Division Warri, Bolarinwa Alabi, on May 4, 2023, at about 0013hours, received a distress call that some armed robbers snatched a black Lexus cars along Warri-Sapele road and had been robbing innocent citizens using the said car.

“The DPO swiftly mobilised and led a strike force team of the Division, who trailed the hoodlums, and caught up with them. The hoodlums upon sighting the police opened fire.

“The hoodlums, numbering about four, escaped into the bush while shooting at the police, but one of them was hit and fatally wounded. The injured suspect gave up the ghost while receiving treatment,” he said.

Edafe added: “One locally made, cut-to-size double barrel gun with two live ammunition, one suspected stolen vehicle with registration number PYN 595 PW were recovered from them.”

Edafe also confirmed the interception of a 36-year-old Odogun Ifeanyi and one other suspect on May 1, 2023, at about 2200 hours, along Ughelli/Asaba road.

According to him, when search was conducted on them, by the DPO Ughelli division who led police operatives, one locally made single barrel gun with four live ammunition, and one jack-knife were recovered.

“On the same date, the DPO and his men also arrested one Ediri Omote ‘m’, 45, and two others, and one locally made single barrel gun with nine expended cartridges were recovered from them.

The DCP operations had assured Deltans that the Command will leave no stone unturned in the fight against crime and criminality but solicited information from the public to assist the police carry out it onerous task of eliminating crimes in the state,” the spokesperson added.
