Police commissioner declares war against cultism, armed robbery, others in Ogun

The new Ogun State Commissioner of Police (CP), Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha, yesterday, declared war against cultism, armed robbery, land grabbers and other violent crimes in the state.

The CP, who was welcomed at Police Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Ogun State by officers, expressed his gratitude for being posted as the 36th Commissioner of Police by the Ag. Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun,

In fighting crimes in the state, he promised to adopt timely response, reorientation of officers and men, proactive policing, extinction of extortion by stop and search police officers, creation of a hotline as a channel of complaints against police infractions, and periodic engagement with members of the public from the grass root are the mechanisms.


According to him, he will use it to bridge the trust deficit between the police officers and members of the public.

He also stressed the importance of working closely with sister agencies to cement a partnership that will score security points aiming at the safety of Ogun people.

Emphasising that he was well acquainted with Ogun State, having worked as a young officer in the state, the commissioner pledged to tackle headlong cultism, armed robbery, kidnapping, rape, defilement, menaces of land grabbers, one-way drivers, especially on Lagos Ibadan expressway that has claimed many life and property and many more violations.

Mustapha also pledged to create an opportunity for repentant cultists, who are willing to renounce their membership and surrender their operational weapons.

He, however, said such repentant cultists could do so without any fear of harassment or intimidation, but should report to the Ogun Police Command of their readiness to get liberated from cult activities.

The CP further appreciated the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for his continued support for the Nigeria Police Force and his resilience to ensure that the state remains peaceful.
