Police arrest four suspected killers of retired Army general

Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have arrested four suspected hoodlums over the killing of Brigadier-General Uwem Harold Udokwere at his home in Sunshine Estate, Lokogoma, Abuja.

The operatives also recovered the knife used to commit the crime and the cell phone of the General. The FCT Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh, who addressed newsmen, said the suspects spoke Hausa language and alleged that a certain Alhaji informed them that the General had money in his house. He said the Alhaji, who reportedly took the Generals’ rifle, is now at large.

According to him, while four suspects are in custody, two others identified as Mallam and Ardo, fled the scene with the General’s pistol, and have been declared wanted by the police.

The police boss said the FCT Command had launched an investigation into the matter and would soon arrest the two others who are at large.
One of the suspects said: “One Alhaji told us the General has money in his house. We went there to rob him, but when he brought out his gun, we had to attack him with our knives. We did not plan to kill him.”

Recall that detectives had launched a full-scale investigation into the gruesome killing. The estate was invaded by the armed robbers, who reportedly went from house to house.

Igweh said: “In response to the tragic and unprecedented attack at Sunshine Homes Estate by armed robbers, resulting in the untimely demise of one Brigadier General Uwem Harold Udokwere (rtd) on June 22, at about 3:00 a.m., we have promptly ordered a thorough and discreet investigation into the circumstances surrounding this regrettable event. We have the four suspects who killed the General.”

Igweh assured the family and the public of swift justice. He said: “We reaffirm the unflinching commitment of the command to amplify the security landscape of the nation’s capital by continually adapting strategies to effectively combat evolving criminal activities.” Igweh urged criminals to quit the capital city or face the full wrath of the police.
