The National Chairman, Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Alhaji Ibrahim Olaniyan, has sought prayers and support for officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to enhance security and stall crime and criminality in the country.

Olaniyan made the call when he visited the Force Headquarters Mosque in  Abuja to distribute relief materials to Muslim faithful for Ramadan and Easter celebrations.

He said: “Our police is not Ghanaian or Gambian police, but Nigerian Police, therefore, let us support their efforts to make our society crime free.”

The Committee as part of it activities in ensuring adequate support for the Nigerian Police also paid courtesy visits to Inspector General of Police, Police Service Commission leadership, Police Officers Wives Association (POWA) and the Force Headquarters Mosque Abuja, where the Committee donated some items to the commission leadership, to help relief the Muslim officers of the hardship encountered during the Ramadan.

The National Chairman said the Committee was in the Commission to congratulate him on his appointment and to let him know that they were vigorously building on the legacies he established as the 18th Inspector General of Police.

He said the Committee now has offices outside the country, such as in Canada, United Kingdom, adding: “We are here to say that the fruit God used you and others to plant has germinated. We are here to rejoice with you and show you love.”

PCRC is a community policing-based organisation established by the leadership of Nigeria Police Force in 1984 to foster a partnership between the police and the community with a view to enhancing efficient and effective policing of communities in Nigeria.

The Committee will be 39 on May 8,  2023.
