The Cross River State Police Command has paraded a pastor allegedly found with a human skull and 25 other suspects in Calabar.
The pastor, Michael Bassey of United Evangelical Church, was arrested for unlawful possession of a skull at No. 56, Uwanse, off Asuquo Ekpo Street, in Calabar South Local Government Area of the state.
Briefing newsmen yesterday in Calabar, the state Commissioner of Police, Sikiru Akande, said Bassey was arrested upon a complaint from a concerned citizen on threat to life.
Akande said: “The suspect was arrested with one human skull tied with the complainant’s picture and carved human image with red clothes.
“Investigation is still ongoing and the suspect will be arraigned in court.
Other person paraded was one Christian Edem-Eyo, 34, who allegedly killed and beheaded one Uduak Okpo, 65, and buried her head and the body separately on June 6, 2021.
The commissioner added that the suspects would be charged to court accordingly and that the command would not rest until criminals are arrested and made to face the law.
He, however, noted that “Operation Restore Peace” with the cooperation of traditional rulers, youth groups and well-meaning citizens in the state had yielded results through the arrest of criminals.
But the pastor, in an interview with newsmen, denied the allegation, stating that he had been conducting healing services for his congregation members before his arrest.
“I don’t know anything about this human skull. I am innocent of the charges against me,” he cried.
On his part, the murder suspect, Edem-Eyo, said: “I killed Uduak Okpo because she belonged to the marine world. She was terrorising me spiritually in the compound.”
