The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Chief of the Field Office for Lagos Office, Ms Celine Lafoucriere, has called on the Oyo State House of Assembly to make more laws for the protection of children.
Lafoucriere, who made the call during an advocacy dialogue with critical stakeholders for children, noted that an economically thriving Oyo State is dependent on investing in children and prioritising their rights to basic social services such as access to clean water, and sanitation, nutrition, health, protection and education.
Speaking during the advocacy dialogue, held in Ibadan, Lafoucriere emphasised the vital role of lawmakers in ensuring the protection of children. She noted that UNICEF was counting on the lawmakers to continue to push for increased budget allocation for children, adolescents and young people across all sectors.
She said: “Oyo State is a priority state for UNICEF. I am delighted to meet with you as those who play a vital role in making crucial decisions in support of children’s rights.”
