The Parliamentary Staff Union of Nigeria (PASAN), on Monday, shut down the National Assembly in total compliance with the indefinite strike action declared by Organised Labour.

Labour commenced the indefinite strike to press home demand for an increase in the minimum wage for Nigerian workers.

Union workers shut the two gates of the Assembly complex which stopped workers and other visitors from gaining access.

It was gathered that the union shut the electricity and water supply to the two buildings housing the Senate and the House of Representatives and other facilities in the complex.

Committee activities scheduled for today (Monday) such as a revenue monitoring hearing by the House Committee on Finance were cancelled.

Some auxiliary workers at the complex who reported for duty could not gain access, while union officials were seen ensuring compliance with the strike action.

Also, at phase one of the Federal Secretariat housing the ministries of Labour and Employment, Communication, Niger Delta among others, some union leaders were seen going in and out to ensure that no staff was in the office working.

Meanwhile, The Guardian reported that passengers were stranded at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Monday following the commencement of the indefinite strike across the country.

After an emergency meeting on Sunday, the aviation union directed its members to withdraw their services across all airports.

The unions involved are the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), the Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals (ANAP), and the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE).
