• Police rescue officer allegedly kidnapped by ESN
There is palpable fear in Anambra State following the ultimatum issued by the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, asking the Igbo youths to desert the South-East zone or take cover in the bush effective today.
A video clip credited to Kanu, which has gone viral, footage of which The Guardian monitored, was quoted as warning of an impending “heavy rain” that would fall within few days in the South-East zone.
The video threat has generated talks with some persons that spoke to The Guardian asking rhetorically: Where do they want us to flee to?”
The ultimatum is coming a week after the May 31, 2021, sit-at-home order by Kanu-led IPOB.
Kanu’s order is coming on the heels of the alleged abduction and killing of Samuel Uzor Okoro, the Personal Assistant to his lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor.
MEANWHILE, police special operatives in the South-East have rescued a policewoman allegedly kidnapped by Indigenous People of Biafra/Eastern Security Network (IPOB/ESN) at their camp in Akabo, Ikeduru Local Council of Imo State.
It was gathered that the rescue operation was carried out by Abba Kyari, his team members and operatives from other security agencies.
A source at the police high command said: “ESN camp in Akabo, Ikeduru Local Council has been dislodged. The IRT team also rescued a policewoman held captive. DCP Abba Kyari and team with other security agencies are performing.”
The Nigeria police authorities had a few days ago disclosed that IPOB/ESN No. 1 killer squad commander, Dragon, an ex-soldier, had been killed alongside five of his members.
A source at the police high command in Abuja alleged that the IPOB commander was responsible for over 70 per cent of the killings in the South-East.
“He has met his waterloo alongside five of his key members when they attempted to attack Imo State Police Headquarters for the second time around 6.00 a.m. of June 6, 2021.
“Four AK-47 rifles, all belonging to police officers they killed in two police stations, six bombs, 2,000 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, seven AK-47 magazines, two operational buses and explosives were recovered.
“The joint teams of the police and army gallantly fought and neutralised the IPOB/ESN terrorists after several minutes of fierce gun-battle along Works Road, near the police headquarters,” the source said.
