Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court has sentenced a painter, identified as Sikiru Oluwasegun, to life imprisonment for raping his 20-year-old neighbour in Lagos State.
The Lagos State Sexual Offences & Domestic Violence Court disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, noting that the culprit’s name will be registered in the Sexual Offenders Register as maintained by the state.
The statement, issued by the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), said that the judge found Oluwasegun guilty as charged by the Lagos state government.

DSVA said he was charged for having sexual intercourse with the survivor without her consent on July 19, 2021 around 3:45 a.m. in Ikorodu.
Delivering the judgement, Justice Oshodi held that the prosecution proved the case against the defendant beyond reasonable doubt.
“Oluwasegun, in his confessional statement, admitted to making his way into the room of the prosecutrix (name withheld) and raped her because he liked her but he could not tell her as she was new to the compound,” the statement read.

“The defendant is a painter who lived in the same building as the survivor who is a student of the Lagos State Polytechnic, also known as Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), Ikorodu.”
The survivor was said to have reported the incident to the student union of LASUSTECH the next day and they got the police to arrest Oluwasegun.
The judge therefore convicted Oluwasegun of rape contrary to Section 260 of the Criminal Law, Laws of Lagos State 2015.
