Aiyedatiwa assures residents of optimal healthcare
Ondo State Government has kicked off the vaccination of girls, between the ages of nine and 14 years, against Human Papillomavirus (HPV) to ensure they are from cervical cancer.
The state governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, while flagging off the vaccination in Akure, the state capital, during the Children’s Day celebration, yesterday, said that preventing the young female children from the deadly cancer was the best approach to safeguarding their future.
Aiyedatiwa said he was deeply convinced that the theme of this year’s Children’s Day celebration tagged “Building a Brighter Future for Children,” must have been carefully chosen, bearing in mind that children are not just the future leaders but also architects of tomorrow’s world.
The governor, who said the issue of healthcare for children and other residents of the state could not be overlooked, said his administration recently recruited more health workers and more would be added soon.
SIMILARLY, Rivers State Government, through the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with Rivers State Primary Healthcare Management Board, has flagged off vaccination of girls between the ages of nine and 14 years in the state against Human Papillomavirus (HPV).
Wife of the governor, Valerie Fubara, who officially flagged it off, said the free vaccines would be available in 388 health facilities across the state.
Fubara, who was represented by the Commissioner for Health, Dr Chidinma Adaeze Oreh, said the state is part of the 20 states in the country to flag off the second phase of the vaccination, saying that the vaccine is meant to prevent cervical cancer.
She, however, called for collaboration of stakeholders, just as she advised parents, guardians and caregivers to ensure they avail their girl-child in the prevention of HPV.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Rivers State Primary Healthcare Management Board, Prof. Blessing Jaja, represented by the former Executive Secretary of the board, Claribel Abam, said that the vaccination would help to reduce the surge.
Also, Chairman of Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Rivers State chapter, Ebi Robinson, passed a vote of confidence for the vaccine.
