Promises to turn Idanre’s tourism potential around

A member of the House of Representatives, representing Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency, Festus Akingbaso, at the weekend, said he was yet to receive the two trucks of rice valued at N100 million that was promised by the Federal Government as palliative for his constituents for the Yuletide.

The chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who disclosed this while giving account of his stewardship to his constituents in Idanre, headquarters of the Idanre Local Council of Ondo State, said that the bags of rice distributed during the festive period were personally bought by him to put smiles on the faces of his constituents. He also promised that the tourism potential of the community would be vigorously pursued to benefit not only Idanre but also the state as a whole.

Akingbaso, who noted that tourist attractions in Idanre were capable of turning the fortunes of the state if utilised, said he would join hands with stakeholders in the tourism sector to put Idanre on the global map.

He said: “If the bill on ICT and Tourism University can be passed, that will enhance the community’s growth. You will see a lot of artefacts in Idanre Hills and you will be amazed. There is no place you can see this in Nigeria.

“There are many ways that Idanre Hills can be developed. Tourism is of prime importance to us. It can be developed if we have a good infrastructure base. There should be a good road network in the community and an adequate power supply to fully harness the benefits of tourism.”

On his part, the monarch of the ancient town, Oba Dr. Fredrick Aroloye, described the impacts made by Akingbaso as remarkable and impressive, stressing that he has been able to make a difference in the lives of the constituents.
