The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Charles Aniagwu denied that the proposed amendment was aimed at making non-oil bearing communities benefit from the proceeds of the commission.
Still in his defence of the bill presently before the Delta State House of Assembly, Okowa said that it was also designed to block all leakages with which the commission’s funds were siphoned for selfish interest.
He said that his government was focused and would not be distracted by the criticism of mischief makers, adding that his administration would welcome constructive criticism from the people that would move the state forward.
He said: “Those currently opposing the amendment of the DESOPADEC Act are only pursuing their selfish agenda and not the benefit of the majority of the people. This administration will not be cowed neither will it give in to cheap blackmails from few persons, hiding under cover of protectors of public interest to falsify information, mislead the unsuspecting members of the public and unleash venomous vituperation on the good intentions of the government.”
Okowa said that his administration was poised to re-engineer government institutions and bring to bear in them best practices that would engender job and wealth creation, all round human and infrastructural development across the state in consonance with his government’s prosperity for all Deltans agenda.
Aniagwu added that within two months of the administration, government had started impacting positively on the lives of the people through various initiatives including the approval for the dualisation of Nnebisi Road and the construction of a Modern Market at Orerokpe.
He reiterated that there was also an approval for the upgrade of facilities at the Ofagbe, Agbor and Sapele technical colleges as a compliment to effort at empowering youths.
