Okechukwu hails Tinubu’s capacity, anti-graft campaign

Osita Okechukwu

Founding member of All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Director General of Voice of Nigeria (VON), Osita Okechukwu, has described President Bola Tinubu’s anti-graft war as “hope renewal and identification with masses nationwide.”

He urged the President to bail the country from the economic stranglehold of “one per cent class of deep pockets, who, over the years, mangled the petrodollars allocated to them for industrial development, failing to lift millions out of poverty.”

Okechukwu’s reaction follows a recent interrogation of the utilisation of foreign exchange allocated for industrialisation by the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He noted Nigerian citizens urgently need to be bailed from the stranglehold of the class that has been feeding fat on the sordid-forex market.

He said that it is courageous for Tinubu, whom he ranked among the rich class, to evoke the “ageless Amilcar Cabral Thesis of Class Suicide” in the anti-graft-war.

Okechukwu said: “For me, this amounts to identification with the collective interest of the masses nationwide. Most of us hold the earnest view that we need to recover more monies, as it was not only General Sani Abacha that stashed our money abroad.

“When one learnt that the Ola Olukoyede-led EFCC raided the Dangote headquarters and other big wig firms, it is with nostalgia that one recalled the famous pledge at Independence Thanksgiving Service, National Ecumenical Christian Centre, Abuja, made by the First Lady, Remi Tinubu. ‘Nigeria’s wealth is the Commonwealth of all; it belongs to everyone. God has blessed my family; we don’t need the wealth of Nigeria to survive, but to do the right thing. I promise you on this altar, that with your help, and with the help of God, we will set this nation on the right path.”

MEANWHILE, the Minister of Sports Development, John Owan Enoh, has expressed confidence in the ability of Tinubu to turn the economic fortunes of Nigeria around for the good of Nigerians.

Enoh stated this, yesterday, during a thanksgiving Mass, held in his honour at the Holy Family Catholic Church, Ikom, Cross River State. He said: “Tinubu has the intellect and capacity to turn things around; let’s support him. If you support me, support the President and pray for him.

“I took a chance with him when he told me to discontinue the litigation. It was at a time nobody knew he would win, but I took a chance and a supporter urged me to meet him and negotiate. I spoke to myself that there’s no need to negotiate for anything, and I didn’t border. I stopped the litigation and he said: ‘John you honoured me, God will honour you.’ I thank him from the bottom of my heart.”
