Ogun extends deadline for 2021 tax returns

As part of efforts to ensure that tax agents perform their duties in line with the provision of the Personal Income Tax Act, the Ogun State Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS) has extended the deadline for 2021 tax returns with two weeks from February 1 to February 14, 2022.

The development was contained in a statement, yesterday, signed by the Executive Chairman, OGIRS, Mr. Olugbenga Olaleye, asserted that the decision was necessitated by several appeals from tax agents, who were unable to file their returns through the Ogun State Electronic Tax Administration Portal (OGETAX).

He noted that extension would give concerned tax agents opportunity to do the needful to avoid paying N500,000 fine.

Olaleye reiterated the determination of OGIRS to ensure that all tax transactions in the state were automated to ensure that taxpayers and tax agents carry out all tax transactions at the comfort of their homes, block leakages, promote ease of doing business and boost revenue generation.

He enjoined tax agents to log on to OGIRS website https://ogirs.ogunstate.gov.ng, click on self service link to access the self service portal, warning that defaulters would be liable to a fine of N500,000.
