Ogun community laments neglect, solicits govt’s support on infrastructure

Ogun State governor Dapo Abiodun

Members of Ifelodun, Ago-Iwoye Community Development Council (ACDC), Ire-Akari axis in Ijebu North Local Council of Ogun State, have alleged years of neglect by the state government.

They appealed to Governor Dapo Abiodun to provide infrastructure in the community.

The residents made the appeal during the commissioning of a culvert they constructed.
The commissioning was done by the councillor of Ijoko ward, Ifelodun, Yinka Adegbite.

Expressing their frustration, the ACDC chairman (Ifelodun), Abdu-Razaq Thaoban, noted that the community supported the current government and massively voted for the governor during the last elections.

He stressed that the committee has done a lot of projects and spent millions of naira to reduce the “troubles and woes” of the residents.

“Sincerely, the government has not done anything to assist us. But I believe they will eventually, because all these projects we are doing are through communal efforts. We know, if we keep doing it, they will listen to us. We have built two health centres. Staff were given to us. We are also building a police post. We urge the government to come to our aid,” he said.

A member of the community, Simeon Oyelumade, who said he had lived there for nine years, also solicited the government’s help.

According to him, most of the residents are retirees trying to survive and rest after serving the government. He said the state should not allow the houses they struggled to build to be destroyed. “We don’t have good roads. Even if our electricity pole falls, we fix it by ourselves,” he added.

Another resident, Anthony Asu, said they erected electricity poles, high tension wires, and various projects at costs that run into millions of naira. He said the commissioned project cost N1.3 million, and called on the government to help the people. “Anytime it rains, properties are destroyed. The people are always in constant fear,” he said.

The chairman of Ire-Akari CDC, Olugbenga Fashina, who had been living in the area for 10 years, said while the people are disposed to supporting the government, they need urgent intervention.

He called on the government to rehabilitate Ogunmoku road and provide other infrastructural needs.

Meanwhile, Adegbite, during an interactive session with the residents, assured of a positive response from the government. He also promised to be on top of the issue and ensure the government comes to their aid.
