Ogun assures firs of council’s prompt tax remittance

Ogun State government has assured the Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS) of its support and collaboration in ensuring that local councils in the state continue to remit to the Federal Government accrued taxes as at when due.

 
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ganiyu Hamzat, gave the assurance, while playing host to the Director, Government Business Department, FIRS, Mr. Mohammed Atiku, in Abeokuta.
 
On his part, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Chieftaincy Matters, Rasak Daddah, stated that the local councils are committed to the remittance of withholding tax, Value Added Tax (VAT) accruable to the agency.
 
In his remarks, Atiku revealed that FIRS plays a significant role in the survival of the country’s economy, informing that further assistance and synergy, in terms of deduction and remittance of necessary dues by the Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government, including local councils, to provide fund for execution of infrastructural development.

The ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Rotimiolu Akinlesi affirmed the determination to further sustain and strengthen relationship between the FIRS and state government for the betterment of the citizens.
 
Also speaking, the Director, Finance and Account, Mr. Biola Adesina, while appreciating the FIRS staff, said the ministry would continue to give necessary backing to the agency, to allow the government delivered more dividends of democracy to the people.
