Abure vows to sue suspended treasurer over claims

The crisis rocking the Labour Party (LP) took another twist yesterday, as its presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, dropped a bombshell, insisting that transparency must be brought to bear through the instrumentality of an independent auditor to lay to rest once and for all the allegations and counter allegations of over management of reported N3.5 billion party finances.
  
Reacting to fraud claims against the embattled national chairman of the party, Julius Abure, Obi demanded a thorough probe of alleged financial impropriety against him. 
  
The former governor of Anambra State who spoke yesterday at a media briefing to render stewardship of the 2023 Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organisation’s funding.
  
He submitted: “For the party (LP), I am a member of the party, and they have chosen to say that I am the leader. What we need to do in the party, and I have discussed it with the leadership is that we must now appoint a reputable audit firm to audit and be able to deal with the account of the party.
  
“When I am involved anywhere money is, it must be transparent. So, the allegations and counter allegations now must be thoroughly investigated and verified, and we would reconcile it and know exactly what we do.”
  
In the meantime, the National Working Committee (NWC) has slammed a six-month suspension on its national treasurer, Oluchi Opara, for “daring to bring the party into disrepute.”
  
The announcement was made on Wednesday in Abuja.
BESIDES, Abure has vowed to sue the suspended national treasurer, maintaining that her allegations against him were baseless.He made the pronouncement during a live programme yesterday. She had accused Abure of allegedly misappropriating N3.5 billion belonging to the party.
